Please note that in order to offer the most authentic looking designs, concert ticket art prints often have a distressed, weather look due to normal aging and wear and tear on the actual ticket stub. Some ticket prints may show some blemishes that are part of the original source and are not due to a defect in the print process. Some restoration is done when possible but the source photos used come from the genuine artifact, most of which are decades old so uneven colors, faded print, and other blemishes may be visible.
The 1965 Newport Folk Festival was a pivotal moment in the history of American music, particularly in the folk music revival of the 1960s. Held in Newport, Rhode Island, from July 23 to July 25, the festival showcased a blend of traditional folk music, contemporary folk acts, and emerging artists who were pushing the boundaries of the genre.
One of the most significant events of the 1965 Newport Folk Festival was Bob Dylan's controversial electric performance which took place on July 25. Dylan, who had risen to prominence as a folk singer known for his acoustic guitar and harmonica, shocked the audience by performing with an electric guitar backed by a group that would later become known in their own right as The Band. This departure from his folk roots was met with both applause and boos from the audience, highlighting the growing divide between traditionalists and those embracing the changing landscape of folk and rock music.
Dylan's electric set symbolized a shift in the folk music scene towards a more electrified sound and paved the way for the fusion of folk and rock music that would become prominent in the late 1960s and beyond. Aside from Dylan's performance, the 1965 Newport Folk Festival featured other notable acts such as Joan Baez, Mississippi John Hurt, Pete Seeger, and The Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
