By almost any standard, William H. Johnson can be considered a major American artist. His art captured the history of Black Americans and he focused on painting what life was like in 1930's and 1940's. This particular design featuring American Hero Harriet Tubman was created in 1945 and is part of a series of works that Johnson called his "Fighters For Freedom" series. He's one of my favorite artists and so I created a few designs featuring some of my favorite pieces.
Several of his works are displayed in the Smithsonian. The images used for these designs are now in Public Domain.
