In the 1930s, the Street Hotel located at 18th & The Paseo was known as a safe place for African American travelers. The legendary Jackie Robinson lived at the Street Hotel when he was in Kansas City. The hotel’s famous night club was called "The Blue Room." Today, the Blue Room in Kansas City is part of the American Jazz Museum. It is both an exhibit as well as a club flor live Jazz, and of course, it was named after the original club from the Street Hotel.
