It hard to believe but it's true: Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble were once the opening act for The Moody Blues in 1983, This was just around the time "Pride and Joy" was being released so Stevie Ray was still an unknown. My friends and I went to see the Moodies that year and we're sitting about 10 rows back and before the show started, we noticed the letters "SRV" on all the amps and equipment sitting on the stage. We had no idea who "SRV" was and actually thought that might be the name of a band. We never heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan, but man we were about to. When the house lights went down and Stevie walked out, he unleashed a wall of sound that no one in that arena was expecting or ready for. To this day, it is one of my all time favorite concert memories. He blew the house down from the second he started to play and to this day, Stevie Ray Vaughan is the ONLY (previously unknown) opening act that I have ever seen where the crowd cheered for an encore. I love the Moody Blues, and they were great too, but I think they learned pretty quick that it may not be the best idea to have an act like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble opening for you. They are a tough act to follow.
