Hippo Hamburgers is a legendary burger joint that opened in 1950 on Van Ness Ave in San Francisco. Hippo was known for great burgers but also for their more eclectic menu selections, such as a hamburger topped with ice cream, hot fudge, a cherry and a pickle. Can't say I ever tried anything like that. Hippo remained a staple in San Francisco until it closed in 1987.
