The Cornelia Street Cafe, was a restaurant & bar at 29 Cornelia Street in New York City's Greenwich Village which opened in July 1977. The Cafe was known for showcasing musicians, poets, writers, and artists and was one of the most popular and iconic destinations for visitors to the Village . In 1998, the Cafe was one of the restaurants recognized by the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation with a Village Award presented to "Cornelia Street Restaurants". Sadly, the Cafe closed its doors for good in January of 2019 after a 41 year run, and like many of the great independent clubs and shops that once defined Greenwich Village, the Cafe owners cited astronomical rent increases as the reason they could no longer continue.
