Capricorn Records is a historic and iconic record label, responsible for inventing the genre of Southern Rock. Ironically, they set out to be an R&B label with Otis Redding being their featured act.
After the untimely death of Otis Redding, the label decided not to continue on the R&B path and instead decided to become a recording studio instead and feature studio musicians that would be available for recording sessions. Jerry Wexler of Atlantic Records was funding the studio but still wanted a record label so Capricorn was born.
When they were still working in R&B, they heard a guitar player on a Wilson Pickett song and they loved his style and approached him about becoming one of their studio musicians. The guitarist was Duane Allman. I think you know the rest.
