The first Borders bookshop opened at 209 South State Street, Ann Arbor in 1971. Borders would grow into a national chain adding Music and Cafe's to their shops. Like so many other book and music retailers, Borders began to struggle with online purchases, MP3 downloads, Kindle books, etc. and closed their final location in 2011. One of the saddest things in the world to me now is going to a mall and they don't have a single bookstore and most don't have a record store either.
