Most people only know "Hound Dog" by Elvis Presley, but true music aficionados know and love the original recording by Willie Mae "Big Mama" Thornton. Written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Big Mama recorded her version in 1952 on Peacock Records and it was released in 1953 where it went on to spend fourteen on the R&B chart, including seven weeks at number one.
