You can't possible create a series of "Music Icon" paintings without including James Marshall Hendrix, however choosing a source photo to use was pretty difficult because there are so many great images of Jimi and he's always so visually dynamic. I decided to use a photo that was taken during a performance at the Newport Pop Festival in Northbridge California in June of 1969. It looks like Jimi was looking right into the camera. I can only imagine what it was like for the photographer that took it.
