ABOUT THE PHOTO: Ann's Chicken Fry House was an iconic restaurant in Oklahoma City located on historic Route 66 for nearly fifty years. The structure was built in 1948 as a gas station but was transformed into the restaurant in 1971.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER: Photographer Carol M. Highsmith has been called "America's Photographer" and for good reason. Highsmith has been visually documenting late-20th and early-21st century America on behalf of the Library of Congress for 25 years and she has made it her life's work to document life in all 50 of the United States. Her work is available through the Library of Congress and at current count, consists of over 42,000 images.
